The Embodiment Series
2006. Handmade paper, cotton gauze and stitching and monoprint.

Stitching creates both image and puckered scars in this exploration of phalloplasty surgery. During a phalloplasty, skin is removed from the recipient’s forearm or back to construct a phallus, leaving a sizable scar in the place of the removed flesh. In the Embodiment Series, paper with gauze infrastructure is printed and stained it to appear like skin and medical remains, while the accompanying stitching explores transference, growth and remnants.
