parade, 2023
Paper towel dispensers, paper toweling, wool, cloth toweling, latex, bathroom stall, tennis shoes, homemade ladder, used fence posts, reclaimed wood from the side of the road in 2021
Parade is a site-specific installation utilizing towel dispensers to create an immersive viewing experience. In this installation, paper toweling parades beyond the mezzanine gallery like industrial party streamers. By invoking celebration from materials with mixed connotations, Parade combines beauty, humor and gravity to help consider how pride can help resist individual and collective oppression.
This work was installed at The Edward J. and Helen Jane Morrison Gallery in Morris, MN August 19-October 11, 2023.
Special thanks to Nicole Soukup for suggesting this venue, and to Jess Larson and Adam Fulwiler for making it happen.
